Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood

I won’t get too into it, but this was literally bad. It’s misogynistic throughout, but also lacks the finesse of Tarantino’s earlier movies. He’s always violent, but Hollywood is different. This isn’t a woman hunting down the man who ruined her life, or a Jewish woman taking out a room full of Nazis. In this context it is disturbing, and the level of ridiculous feels less satisfying to me and more like a male fantasy. The theme in this movie is violence against women in every form, and it’s very upsetting to see it getting so much recognition. And beyond that the actual literal choreography and direction in that climatic violent outburst was over the top without humor, borderline embarrassing to watch. I could practically feel Tarantino’s giddiness at the scope of the bloodshed and it made me very uncomfortable.
