    The New World

"Terry gets incredibly involved in sort of poetic shots [...] he gets lost in that and the stories get diffused, particularly in our film [The New World]." - Christopher Plummer (a legend, R.I.P.).

Malick tends to use story and characters as window dressing or background noise that adds additional texture in his mood pieces. The New World is a beautiful and meditative film in love with its images and the empty spaces between the narrative. When done right, and Terrence…

    The Virgin Suicides

Wistfully gazing back to clear the haze of the mystical unknown.
Futilely endeavouring to understand the bewitchingly inscrutable.
Misty-eyed yearning polluted with a bitter scent.
    Ethereality, bruised.

    Cherry Falls

“It's a stinking hypocritical world [...] where rapists become pillars of the community.”

Cherry Falls is DERANGED. It’s also a classic, we just don’t realise that yet.

There are some completely insane teen movies released in the late 90s and early 00s—and not just horror movies—that aren’t yet praised enough; Thrown aside to the corners of cult fandom. A weird Wild West genre in an era taken for granted. An era we’re unlikely to see the likes of again.

    Fast & Furious

This movie is so dour, a real comedown after the first three yet ultimately is the transitional piece that segues into the best period of the franchise.

The opening oil rig robbery still rocks.

Dom drinks some non-Corona beer early on. What the hell, man?

There’s some cute callbacks to the original, 1 Fast 1 Furious, like hitting the NOS too early (only to subvert the implied outcome) and “now you owe me a ten second car”.

    Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The Force Awakens was amazing! It didn't disappoint. I love it. I love it. I love it so much! The midnight showing was GREAT! The atmosphere was palpable. The first movie I've been to, that's received a unanimous round of applause from the audience, although it was more of a sitting ovation rather than a standing one because I think everyone needed a minute to take it all in. So yeah, Great movie. Thank you, J.J. Abrams.

    Big Trouble in Little China

"I'm a reasonable guy. But, I've just experienced some very unreasonable things."

Well, this is it. This is what I've been looking for recently.

Big Trouble in Little China has no pretensions, no delusions about what it is. It's is a full blooded, fun, crazy, exciting action adventure. It's pure film, this is what movies should be.

John Carpenter is one of my favourite directors, so I had some high hopes going in, but my expectations were surpassed on this one.
