my favorite literature professor always says something about the best stories being about little lives living through Big, Capital H History. he'd love this movie, achingly beautiful in all its (big) little details. maybe all women understand this paradox of having the world's greatest loves and greatest tragedies drawing themselves into and playing themselves out in their bodies, which are never really under their control. i'm glad this movie exists.
