    a fun revenge fantasy but difficult to take all of the gotcha moments seriously without it feeling kinda cringey after a while... heavy handed and predictable a lot of the time. there's a lot of great reviews that dive into different critiques that are really articulate and i recommend reading them as well!

    bottom line for me: it's a rape revenge fantasy where the only people who die are two women and then the big triumphant moment at the end is…

    Crack: Cocaine, Corruption & Conspiracy

    a great documentary - educational, engaging, emotional. explains the CIA's involvement in peddling cocaine into black communities in a way that is easy to understand. heartbreaking to watch low income  black communities be ravaged to such a point where they actually held rallies demanding more police and heavier sentencing for drug crimes, and in turn, the police took bribes from dealers and resold confiscated drugs.

    i was worried this would be a copaganda and spike lee, sadly, pretty much gave me exactly what i was worried about.

    aside from a few useful moments that elluded to how deeply rooted white supremacy is in american politics - norad members at klan meetings, the nixon posters at klan meetings, david duke saying "america first" and some reiteration of maga, and even the term superpredators coming up in the intro video at the beginning of the movie (!)…

    about halfway through this movie i started thinking about a horrid take i saw on twitter the other day where someone said the florida project was “a whitewashed moonlight”. i realized that that’s how i’d describe this movie. this film - unlike moonlight or the florida project - centers on an immensely wealthy white teen and fails to  address his privileged position in any meaningful way. also, unlike moonlight…
