Although not technically the first Studio Ghibli movie, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind set the foundation for everything that we have come to love most in their long body of work from over the years – we nonetheless still recognize it as one of their films. Being only the second feature film directed by Hayao Miyazaki as well as the first to have been based upon his own property, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind not only…

I’ve been on the verge of suicide at numerous points of my life. I keep trying to convince myself that everything is going to get better; yet nothing I find out of my life is set to really change that. Even my own peers seem to be of no use to me anymore, even when I feel like they’re supposed to be the ones I trust most. My whole life feels like I’m just stuck inside of a void that…

Prior to this, my only experience with an adaptation of Yasutaka Tsutsui's novel was through Mamoru Hosoda's film The Girl Who Leapt Through Time - and while I think both films succeed for obviously very different reasons, Obayashi's adaptation is one that captures the youthful spirit in a manner that's very twee and heartwarming.

But from watching The Little Girl Who Conquered Time it also feels like you're in a spot where you're seeing all these events that define your…

Fun and strange enough movie for the Saturday matinees as part of the Criterion Channel's lineup. I don't know if there's all that much else to say with regards to the movie's silly premise; a cat drinks some strange chemical and then turns into a human, but Carice van Houten brings her all to this role and she's always a delight to watch.

If you're a cat person you're bound to get a whole lot out of watching this. Fun for the whole family.

(NOTE 12/02/2019): This is not exactly my best writing - as I was only starting to develop my skills as a teenager with writing single paragraph-long reviews, but eventually I plan to write a more detailed review explaining why this is my favourite film of all time to take over this space. I will leave this old review up for keepsakes, but I will also include the new text to be visible first in the foreseeable future.

    Before I begin,…

I'm an especially reclusive person. I don't even know if I've ever managed to have a social life the way I wanted because, to say the least, I've lived my life as a hermit. I think this is a fairly known fact about me, and it isn't surprising about the sort of person that I am, I've been living a lonely person. I've never been a particularly good communicator. I'm already nearing my 19th birthday as I'm writing this and…
