2001: A Space Odyssey

2001: A Space Odyssey ★★★★★

I cannot think of a better choice to spend my 500th (logged) movie on. Stanley effin Kubrick in all of his glory.

As I truly love cinema and the experience of it all, I planned out a weekend to sit down, eat an edible, and take this in.

It did not disappoint. My first reaction to this is how absolutely off the wall incredible it looks for a movie that is over 50 years old. I could cap off the review there, because that says so much about Kubricks eye and attention to detail.

I suspect that the more I read and learn about this film the more I will enjoy it and the overall public thinking about it and it’s interpretations, but I have to say. What I will remember most is when Dave finally gets away from HAL and launches himself closer to Jupiter’s atmosphere, my edible finally hit, and I felt like I was on an astral plane.

My mouth was dry, I couldn’t move and I did not blink for about 20 minutes. I will never forget that experience.

I hope I have many more like it.
