The Lone Ranger

The Lone Ranger ★★★★

Casting Johnny Depp as the most iconic Indigenous character of all time is embarrassing and inexcusable. Every portrayal of Tonto dating back to the 1950's (including a cartoon) has been performed by an Indigenous actor.

I also think this might be Depp's last great performance...

It's a shame because with the exception of a few "too dark too real" moments, most of the race stuff is handled really well. Particularly the character who chooses to accept the villain's lies to avoid seeing himself as a genocidal monster. It's a smart critique of America's unwillingness to deal with historical sins.
