    Night of the Comet

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

When Sam slapped her step mom right back I was sold!

I’m not sure if it’s the 80s kick I’ve been on lately or this pair of Cali sisters but I had no business enjoying this as much as I did! The look of this horror comedy is awesome, I love the neon and and all the low budget sets. The plot is completely insane but I think that’s part of this films charm, I liked that it took some…

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors

Freddy falls in love with the word bitch in this one and never looks back

Although I didn’t find it quite as scary, I love this film just as much as the first in the franchise, it’s definitely my favorite of the sequels. Freddys one liners are a bit cheesy but remain pretty iconic. I love the imaginative plot, the visuals and set pieces are brilliant. One of my earliest memories of a horror film is the strange snake creature…

    The Nun

Despite my better judgment and a shit load of negative reviews, after watching the new The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, I just couldn’t help but go back and form an opinion of this prequel for myself. Jump scares left and right contributed to the majority of the “horror” and honestly very few were actually earned. In reality it’s my soft spot for Taissa Farmiga that prompted me to give this film an extra star, she was a…

  • Harpoon

This clever little chamber piece is loads of fun!

Funny, suspenseful, gruesome, and refreshingly unique, this pitch black comedy far surpassed my expectations. The acting was good, I enjoyed hating each of the characters, they were well developed and the dynamic of their group becomes increasingly interesting as their secrets are gradually revealed. Harpoon maintains a delicate balance of real tension and humor, absurdity and reality, sympathy and disdain, it really makes the most of its incredibly simple plot. It’s…

Damn, James really loves his creepy fucking dolls.

A pretty solid early effort from James Wan. Sure it has its faults, the acting isn’t great, the plot is a bit clunky, and it over uses its jump scares, but I think there’s enough here to justify a recommendation for someone seeking decent ghost story. The effects and cinematography aren’t half bad. Some of the set pieces are quite suspenseful and while not all of the jump scares feel totally earned,…

    Army of the Dead

We really need to start a petition to limit the runtime of Snyder’s next film.

I was actually pretty eager for Zack Snyder’s newest feature, not that I was expecting anything incredible, but I’m a big fan of his Dawn of the Dead remake. I was excited to see how his signature over stylized action sequences and the unique aesthetics that he’s developed since his debut, would impact another zombie film but I was left feeling pretty underwhelmed. The plot…
