The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans

A decade later and I'm still picking up on little things here and there in terms of how this can be read, as both the Cage and Herzog are totally doing improv at times. Also, is Herzog taking shots at Malick?

Say what you will, but this is one of the biggest enigmas surrounding the most engaging performance of the century.

    Throw Down

Sometimes you need to get thrown on your ass to learn how to get back up.

Just completely resonatated with me on almost every level. I have yet to see the "Election" movies or "Exiled", but between this and "Running on Karma" I think To's genre benders surpass his crime/action flicks.

The two standout scenes for me were the bar brawl and the eacape from the gambling house. The brawl reminded me of the climax of his most recent work…

    The Rocking Horsemen

I should have just trusted the director as this wasn't my first choice, but I ended up really liking it.

I don't think it really does anything truly out of this world, but it has a ton of little things done extremely well. It really made me want to read "Beck" again too.

If I had one thing to nitpick about it would be that the main characters futures are so brushed over, followed the family business, but then we…

    Street Wars

I really like Jamaa's works so it was fairly easy for me to enjoy this. "Street Wars" is definitely continuing the the heightened surrealist satire that he employed in the back half of the Penitentiary series, but slapping it onto a critique?? of "Boyz and the Hood" and films of its ilk.

There is most definitely some conversation to be had about the medias portrayal of black youths, but as with other later Fanaka, it's so lost in the weirdness…

    Cookie's Fortune

Pretty hard to accurately rate this after nearly 10 hours of scare films, training videos, and no bugdet stuff. "Cookies Fortune" has a qualified director, actual actors, and a budget to match. However it's just as uninteresting as some of the schlock from that ten hours.

The film cares more about it's feel trying to make a Southern Fried version of "Waiting for Guffman", but the script isn't terribly funny not are the characters as interesting as they seem to…

    The Servant

I thought "The Servant" was almost glacial at the onset despite the excellent score and photography, but everything post power dynamic change is really good. After the change it becomes almost a surrealist black comedy at times where Barrett and Tony are suddenly two drunk old bickering queens and I was game for that.

I don't want to let my enjoyment of the heightened final act detract from how well made this movie is and make it seem like a…
