My favorite since the original, tackling everything from elevated horror to toxic fandom. Simultaneously critizes reboot culture while also being an awesome reboot itself and shows as much reverence for the original as for the genre. For Wes.

All Last Jedi haters should be forced to watch this.

    Scream 4

Probably my favorite sequel (so far!) with some big laughs and gnarly kills. From the super meta, violent opening to the absolute batshit finale, this has some of the best moments of the series.

Feels like it's really aged well in the YouTube/Tick Tock era we're in.

    Black Panther

A great cast squandered in a rather forgettable by-the-numbers superhero movie. The most interesting part is when it dips into 007 territory, but that's ends pretty quickly.

Michael B. Jordan is expectedly good, but his entire arc is so rushed that it's hard to really care. Everything feels rushed which is a shame because this had the potential to be this big Shakespearen conflict. Instead we get a lot of obvious green screen and pretty unremarkable sequences.

Honestly the Black Panther action in Civil War was way better. That at least felt real and grounded.

    Film #5 of 31 for Hooptober 6.0

Incredibly frightening and disturbing. For a film released in 1992, this holds up tremendously well, both in the execution of its social commentary and in the scares.

I like the notion of urban myth existing as a modern fairy tale, a cautionary story meant for children but just as real to the adults. One can confidently say "Candyman" four times but then hesitate on the fifth. Is it because it's a dumb children's game or something actually dangerous? Either way, you don't want to find out.
