James’s review published on Letterboxd:
Coming-of-age films like this make me excited to live as a teenager and to have fun but also feel just a little disappointed that my teenage life isn’t as cool as it is for the characters. I just can’t help it.
Expected a little more drama from a Linklater film, though the more I think about it, I like how subdued and relaxed it all is. I enjoyed how it covered a wide range of characters, it was a unique perspective.
Loved the 70’s rock, and what is probably McConaughey’s breakout role, hamming it up completely.
Also, are those initiations actually accurate to American high school? That stuff was completely foreign to me
