Sound of Metal is a 2020 movie that deals with deafness in a unique way that features great acting, screenplay and sound. The thing that this movie tackles is dealing with becoming deaf and it deals with this subject matter in a way that nothing is on-the-nose, but instead it just gives you all these little moments that show you how getting this "handicap" can also be a good thing and that we sometimes just need time to adjust.
This movie features a few fantastic performances. Those performances are by Riz Ahmed, Olivia Cooke and Paul Raci. I haven't seen them in a lot of movies, but from what I've seen these are their best performances to date. Riz Ahmed was great in the leading role and his facial expressions were fantastic like they needed to be as that was the main thing he needed to achieve with this kind of subject matter and script. Cooke and Raci are both also great in their supporting roles and they make every scene they are in better.
The sound is also fantastic as the mixing and editing just make you feel like the main character more and it shows you what he is experiencing.
Overall, Sound of Metal is one of the better movies released in 2020 and I hope it gets some recognition in the coming awards ceremonies.
