    Another Round

It is always difficult mixing a serious topic such as alcoholism with humour.

I was a huge fan of the music and the delicate simplicity of the sound design. The middle of the film was especially impactful and felt very close to home.

The film was headed for a 5-star rating from me before I reached the ending. I found that the final scene took away from the connection I had formed with the characters and plot so far.

  • Minari

A touching narrative that follows a Korean-American family in pursuit of the American Dream.
Subtle at first, the plot engages in a slow build towards an emotionally charged and satisfying conclusion (in my opinion anyway!)
I loved the references to nature and its place in the past, present and future of humanity.

"Everyone was afraid... I was afraid."

A careful study of body language, movement and desire, Vento Seco exposes the truth that faces many in the Brazilian queer community.

Light hearted, yet sincere, the films narrative draws the viewer in tightly. The excellent use of colour as thematic symbolism and the synthesised score create an intense feeling of fantasy within a harsh society.

    Embrace of the Serpent

Alongside 'Karambate', the last Shaman of his kind, a western scientist must learn to abandon his materialistic possessions and endure a harsh spiritual journey in the depths of the Amazon rainforest.
A very intimate and heartfelt portrait of the Amazonian Tribes and their ancient cultures.
