    The Enforcer


    if magnum force was something of a critique, the enforcer, doubles-down on the most reactionary impulses of this franchise. it’s a movie where eastwood faces off against hippie terrorists (with no politics to speak of) and has to deal with pc culture in the form of a lady cop. there’s also the usual helping of racist stereotypes. a low point in the series, thus far.

    The Assistant


    A claustrophobic horror film about bureaucracy and all the ways in which monstrous behavior is covered for and normalized. Expertly directed, especially as it relates to how sexism and misogyny can saturate the very atmosphere of a place. Julia Garner is a real treasure.
