Scarface

Scarface ★★★★★

In 1983 director Brian De Palma shocked audiences with Scarface. By today's standards the violence and language isn't very shocking, but at the time of its release it caused quite the uproar. The film is a remake of Howard Hawk's 1932 film of the same name and this version is better in everyway. (And I think the original is really good)

De Palma's direction is fantastic and it works perfect for the film giving it just the right feel. The soundtrack is also very effective. The acting is very good all around especially from Al Pacino. Pacino is mesmerizing in the now iconic role of Cuban immigrant, Tony Montana. He owns the movie! In my opinion he was robbed of on Oscar nod. Scarface is full of iconic scene after iconic scene and it is just a lot of fun to watch. It has drama, it has comedy, it has emotion, it has it all.

Overall Scarface is just a classic. It features one of Pacino's best performances (which is saying a lot) and it is endlessly quoteable. The end shootout is amazing also. 9.5/10
