Greener Grass

Greener Grass ★★★★

unironically a better satire of the personal gratification and trivial competitiveness suburban life begs of hapless middle america than american beauty itself. i can see why some simply dismissed this as a conjuration of lynch married to an snl episode but it's really anything but. every single scene unfolds with a new absurdity that derides the absolute stupidity of the bourgeois by literalizing its issues, from the way children are traded like stocks to the way every decision made by the characters, no matter how personally detrimental (to both themselves and their family) is out of a sense of desperate conformity. both the most i've laughed and the most uncomfortable i've felt in a minute.
