Eighth Grade

Eighth Grade is being marketed as a TOO REAL mirror to everyone’s eighth grade experience, which it sort of is, but I also think that centering the discussion around that misses the film’s heart, especially around Kayla and her dad. It’s also a deeply political film, but all of those politics bubble under the surface in a way that’s both a bit frustrating yet stark and well realized if you’re paying attention to the details.
