Jeff 🍜’s review published on Letterboxd:
Brilliant. Completely hilarious but maintains total control and delivers drama and tragedy at the drop of a hat. Lanthimos didn’t write the script for this one but he still has such an ability to direct actors toward dark deadpan and find the twisted humor and symbolism in every situation. Every actor is operating at full force in this.
I’ve seen the occasional use of fisheye lenses criticized or at least questioned by some people, but I think it’s incredible here - such a fresh visual perspective on a period piece and forces you to look at the (immaculate) set and costume design in ways you usually wouldn’t in a standard costume drama.
Bizarre, twisted, sexy, and fun. Can’t wait to see it again.
