Jesse Vargas’s review published on Letterboxd:
A period piece melodrama of familiar history, coated and served fresh with modern day sass.
My first taste of Yorgos's work and I'm already wishing for seconds. The film is equipped with clever wit and sarcastic humor some might find jarring (while I find it lavish and amusing!). Of course, these satisfying quips are elevated by the talent on hand: Emma Stone, Olivia Colman, and Rachel Weisz.
Despite an elegant set and wardrobe, the ending is left with a bit of inelegance. Although, how else can a film filled with characters of such scandalous intent possibly end?
