Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key

Martino's run of gialli was remarkable. What he lacks in directing skills he more than makes up for in genre mastery (a paradox, but there it is). Edwidge Fenech is a scheming, highly sexualized force to be reckoned with in this. Pistilli's character is estremamente misogino, 1970s style. Strindberg is strongberg, too, but her character's about-face isn't quite pulled off. Nicolai soundtrack adds much, as always.

    After My Death

This high school suicide drama is dark, powerful stuff and a very impressive feature directing debut from Kim Uiseok (who was a crew member on THE WAILING). Several story threads hanging, but worked with the emotionally frayed nature of it all. Strong performances across the board, but lead actress Jeon Yeo-Bin and Seo Young-hwa as her deceased friend's mother are incredible. This script could work almost as is in Japan considering the social and school pressures at play.

Refn’s TOO OLD TO DIE YOUNG ep4&5. The style *is* the substance taken to even further extremes than ONLY GOD FORGIVES or NEON DEMON. Wasn’t overly excited but A+ use of Barry Manilow to kick off one of the oddest car action sequences ever. Loudest gunshots since HEAT?
