Despite the 3 hour long runtime, I was never close to being bored by this film. I expected more action, but I wasn’t at all disappointed with what I got. This film has some of the best cinematography I’ve seen ever. The colors really pop out, but never in a way that’s too distracting. It doesn’t have the strongest characters of any Kurosawa film, but that’s the only real criticism I have of it. I wouldn’t put this film up there with “Rashomon,” “Seven Samurai,” or “Throne of Blood” but it’s not too far off quality-wise from those masterpieces.

    George Washington

It’s been a few years now that I’ve been a film-lover, and in those few years I’ve rarely been as pleasantly surprised as I was with this film. While I’ve heard some praise for this film previously, I rarely ever see people talking about it. Which I guess doesn’t surprise me, since everyone would rather talk about more grand films like “There Will Be Blood” and “Inception” over a more subtle and genuine film like “George Washington.” It’s very much an arthouse film, but anyone who’s into that sort of stuff should definitely give this film a watch at some point.

First time watching this film in over a year, and it’s still one of my all time favorites.

The first 2/3s of this film are alright. It’s kind of conventional and predictable, but still well made for the most part. Then the third act hits out of nowhere, and it’s one of the most devastating gut punches I’ve seen in a film from this century. I’m genuinely impressed by this film. Good job Clint Eastwood, you got me with this one. Might even up the grade at some point.
