Jean-Luc Botbyl’s review published on Letterboxd:
I've always found these movies wildly over rated, but this is the first one I think is straight up bad. It feels like a hastily constructed direct to DVD sequel that somehow made its way into theaters. Very little about the film feels well thought-out, from an incredibly weak villain to the abysmal pacing. There's no time for the film to actually do the character arcs it sets out to, and so we're left simply being told "these characters changed in these ways" because they have to for the plot to progress. The jokes probably work for a younger audience though, and the animation work is top-notch--I love the design on the dragons, and some of the scenes really are breathtaking. So it's not a complete bust, just a total failure on the narrative front.
