Candyman, or Candyman 2021 as I'll call it (seriously, I hate when two films in a franchise have the same name) was directed by Nia DaCosta and is a sequel to the 1992 film of the same name. There were other sequels that already came out, but similarly to the 2018 Halloween movie, this one is directly following up from the first entry of the series. Anthony (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) is an artist living in the Cabrini-Green district in Chicago,…

    MOVIES ARE BACK!!!

Sorry, that’s just my excitement of getting to have cinematic experiences like this again. This isn’t my first trip to a theater since they reopened, but it’s by far my most cathartic. Especially considering last year, A Quiet Place: Part II was the next big movie I was going to see before the pandemic hit. This was the first loss I felt, especially with me having loved the first movie as I expressed in my review of…

    The Eyes of Tammy Faye

    ★★★

Informative but little else. Well put together but doing nothing to stand out from something you could find on CNN. Its story is interesting but never really has anything mind-blowing or hard to believe. It's at least short, so if you're curious about what happened or just want something to compliment the new movie (which I've yet to see), this will do the job just fine.

  • Malignant

    Malignant

    ★½

James Wan’s Malignant tries so hard to scare and shock its viewers that it forgets to figure out what it even wants to be, leaving us with a confused, bloody mess that features mere glimmers of assured direction and a few successfully unsettling moments.

    INTERSTELLAR: A CINEPHILE AWAKENED

Throughout the majority of my life so far, I enjoyed movies. There were some that I loved and would re-watch constantly, others I hated and swore to never give another try, and some that went in one ear and out the other. Not too much like now, in that sense. However, I didn’t have the level of admiration and love for the art form as a whole that I have now. You wouldn’t have seen me…

BLADE RUNNER 2049: A BEATING HEART IN THE HOLLYWOOD MACHINE

As I had stated many months ago, Interstellar was the film that turned me into a true, if very inexperienced, cinephile. Someone who wanted to follow new films closely, catch up on all that I’d missed, and deeply analyze all of it as well as I could. This also included a closer look at the content creators focused on film, leading me to seek out some of the top names…
