Feels like a mix of giallo and Jean Rollin. Great upbeat score. I've watched 5 Naschy films in the past 2 days and they seem to be getting better as this is my favourite of the bunch.
Not sure how you could ask for any more - after 40 years of Star Wars saturation it's impressive they can release something that feels fresh while also honouring its past and actually being a fun & entertaining watch!
Beautiful visuals (Snoke's room, Luke's island, and the Kurosawa-inspired battle on Crait). I'm really enjoying the Rey-Kylo Ren dynamic; it has turned into a complex and interesting relationship. I thought the casino plot diversion was entertaining and Benicio del Toro was perfect. Luke's storyline was well handled with some nice throwbacks and loved the Yoda zingers.
The first Harryhausen I've seen (though of course I've seen plenty of clips over the years) so I don't have any nostalgia associated with the film or his effects. But it's hard not to have a smile on your face while watching the special effects here. Just good old fashioned movie making magic.
Septindicator 2021! This month I am going through the Indicator catalogue in spine order.
