I just want to discuss this real quick. This is obviously an allegory for dementia. The visual representation of how the disease deteriorates someone.
The hallways representing the mind of the grandmother. The black mold being a way to physically see the disease take over someone. The final scene of Sam looking at her moms back, representing the fear of the disease happening to you.
The ending scene of the daughter taking care of the mother was really quite haunting, especially as someone who saw a grandparent suffer from the effects of dementia.
