    Never Rarely Sometimes Always

A naturalistic, patient and sensitive film, Eliza Hittman’s Never Rarely Sometimes Always provides essential commentary on timely, controversial topics: abortion access and ones control over their own body.

Sometimes tough to watch but ultimately real & beautiful, Hittman’s latest is a look at the bravery of a young teen, Autumn, who is confronted by conservative legislation that prevents her from receiving an abortion. It’s incredibly tough to see these merciless medical professionals ignore the health & feelings of their patient to instead talk…

  • Possessor

Brandon Cronenberg’s mind-bending second feature, Possessor, is a singular work of art made up of striking practical effects and insane performances from some of the industry's most underappreciated actors. Inspired by some of genre filmmaking’s greatest—Argento, Lynch and David Cronenberg—this ultra stylized smorgasboard of guts, gore & neon will leave some basking in its glory whilst others are annoyed. You must brace yourself for this blood-soaked and unrelentingly bonkers film.

Possessor follows Tasya Vos, played brilliantly by Andrea Riserbough, a unique…

Dea Kulumbegashvili’s assured, provocative debut absolutely floored me. It’s a claustrophobic, slow burn tale of faith and womanhood that is reminiscent of the best from Haneke. Every shot is so carefully composed, with gorgeous lingering moments and an intricate soundscape that key into the despair of this harrowing narrative. Dea is a special new voice in Georgian cinema and I’m excited to see what the future of her and other Georgian creatives hold.

  • Mandibles

Quentin Dupieux’s latest surrealist comedy is a brisk tale of organized crime and a giant fly. It combines the traditional buddy comedy dynamics of something like Dumb and Dumber with Dupieux’s simple yet rich dark comedy, making for something so delightful and unapologetically absurd. There’s truly not another mind out there like Dupieux’s and Mandibles is just further demonstration of that.

To quote my hero Erica Albright from The Social Network:

“You are probably going to be a very successful computer person. But you're going to go through life thinking that girls don't like you because you're a nerd. And I want you to know, from the bottom of my heart, that that won't be true. It'll be because you're an asshole.”
