Blending the frenetic energy and youthful exuberance of Reprise with the vulnerability and honesty of Oslo August 31st, Joachim Trier has crafted The Worst Person in the World: an astounding conclusion to his newfound Oslo trilogy. A film that’s a pure triumph from start to finish, with a revelatory lead performance from Renate Reinsve that moves, charms, and breaks your heart in equal measure. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more achingly personal and tender film this year. It’s easily a new favorite of mine and I cannot wait to watch it again!

Julia Ducournau subverts any sort of expectations you may have walking into the next feature from the filmmaker behind Raw as she crafts a transgressive masterpiece that’s disarmingly sweet and actually pretty damn hilarious. it’s also a film that operates on levels much more profound, emotionally resonant & less shock-valuey than i ever could’ve imagined. as Ducournau is seemingly less concerned with continually ramping up the gore and more interested in building this genuinely moving tale of identity & love. Agathe Rouselle is unforgettable and Vincent Lindon is shockingly tender. let Julia Ducournau make whatever the hell she wants to do next because this is just fucking unreal!!

Its meta commentary on legacy sequels and elevated horror is clever, and the new set of characters fit perfectly into this world. However, Craven’s filmmaking techniques and knack for mood is sorely missed here. I do respect that Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett didn’t want to simply emulate Craven’s…

sometimes goes a little too far down the meta rabbit hole, but watching Craven play around with Scooby Doo-level antics while also blasting the toxicity of Hollywood is just pure fucking bliss. don’t really understand the hate this one gets… it’s fun!
