    I could watch this for hours (and I could listen for many more) but I don’t think that aestheticising nature and the horrors of an increasingly automated civilisation in the same way is conducive to a genuine critique of the latter. I spent a lot of this movie thinking “wow all this bad stuff looks as rad as the nature stuff,” which doesn’t fit the laborious end-text but is still: a great time at the cinema.

    Pretty toothless imo, the kind of satire intended to feel incisive without actually offending those at the centre of its ostensible target. Content to gently mock the obliviousness of the rich without actually digging into the systemic abuses their existence allows beyond obvious acts of little dehumanisation. Or, at least, I don't think Bong really pulls off what's maybe supposed to be here, so lightly does he connect the cannibalisation of the working class to the rich family above them…
