Watched the 3 hour director's cut. Nowhere near the quality of the previous film but I still found it to be a fun watch. I appreciated how it was faithful to The Shining but wasn't a lame rehash of it and had a pretty satisfying ending. Also Ewan Mcgregor and the child actors did a pretty great job.

Pretty average overall, which is disappointing since I've been really itching to see great noir film for a while as it is my favorite genre.
The movie attempts to tackle themes such as obsession but ends up falling short due to films like Se7en and Zodiac handling those themes in much more effective way.
