Don't believe anyone who tells you this movie is "good" or "important" or even worthy of praise.
I could write about this at length (and maybe I will!) but in short: This movie doesn't do anything close to what the filmmaker thinks it does. The idea that you'll find absolution in death – OR FROM THE FUCKING COPS – is deranged. We learn almost nothing about the friend in whose name Cassie is doing all this for – really, she's doing it for herself. This movie also fuels the pernicious lie that being assaulted is a stain that will follow you for the rest of your life or even change the course of it, a narrative that takes away survivors' right to self-determination.
The film is also littered with religious imagery. Cassie dies for our sins! No one asked for this!!!! Watch Elle instead.
