I'm recieving word from my future self that this picture will revive the movie western.

So many 21st century westerns will be made that the genre will finally challenge the heretofore unrivaled domination of comic book superheroes since Christopher Reeves, Margot Kidder, Michelle Pfeiffer, Tim Burton, Tobey McGuire, and Kirstin Dunst gave birth to a cultural monstrosity which has been growing more virulent with each passing decade, like a 5th column inside the Nation of Cinema.

Why does yesterday wander through today like a ghost?
Why is the news still bad?

And if we won, why do we look as if we lost?
And if Hitler died, why does his voice still pursue us through the spaces of American life?

This charmed me like a good Dolly Parton, Porter Wagoner duet. As if Emmylou Harris and Willie Nelson were singing at a Patsy Cline tribute show. After the Graceland wedding, it feels a bit D-I-V-O-R-C-E, but ends as sweet as Islands in the Stream.

One could see echoes of Peter and Cybill in this as well.

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance + songwriting drive-in date is quite cute.

A fine, romantic counterpoint to Altman's disenchanted masterpiece.
