Patrick Delmore’s review published on Letterboxd:
My first ‘legal’ R-rated movie, though I feel like nobody really carded until that summer. I was denied entry to ‘Face Off’ at 15, and still haven’t seen it. I’d already seen ‘Private Ryan’, and ‘The Thin Red Line’ was my first Malick film. I assumed it would be more grizzly than ‘Ryan’ and expected death to be lurking in the tall grass. When the soldiers pass the old man walking alone, it is truly chilling. I watched the Oscars that year and was sorry that John Toll lost to Janusz Kaminski for Ryan. Twenty two years later, I still have vivid memories of the movie, I only saw it once and have yet to watch another Terrence Malick film.
