Star Wars Movies Ranked

These were actually hard to rank, because Star Wars is literally my favorite thing ever since I was like 4 years old. So basically I would give each one of them 5 stars, but I tried to be critical and objective.... Read my quick thoughts to each movie down below!

  • Star Wars

    1.Star Wars

This is not only my favorite SW film, it‘s also one of my all time favorites in general. In my opinion, the binary sunset is the best scene in the entire franchise and one of the most magical scenes in cinematic history.

  • The Empire Strikes Back

    2.The Empire Strikes Back

Includes the probably most iconic scene and line in cinematic history. This film is just pure perfection. Luckily, one of my local theaters showed ESB last summer - right after the first lockdown - in the OV (which is really rare in Germany) and these two hours were the best cinema experience I‘ve ever had.

  • Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

3.Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Such an underappreciated film. “Rogue One“ has not only dared something, it also features a brilliant cast, breathtaking cinematography with a good direction of Gareth Edwards and a wonderful score. You don‘t need a typical Jedi vs Sith story to create a gripping Star Wars story, and “Rogue One“ proved that in the best way possible.

  • Return of the Jedi

    4.Return of the Jedi

That film brings Anakin Skywalker‘s arc to such a wonderful end thats redeeming scene gets me every time. But especially the celebration scene is just pure magic!

  • Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

5.Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

Despite its flaws (mainly the pacing and still the dialogue that has improved though, considering the other previous prequels) and the fact that some fanboys really call this the best film of all time, “Revenge of the sith“ is a highly emotional and gripping film, filled with many iconic scenes (and memes) that never fail to make me sad. To be fair though, “Star Wars: The clone Wars“ is a huge reason this film is that well appreciated nowadays. The show not only does Anakin’s character more justice, it also really increased to value of all the killed characters.

  • Star Wars: The Force Awakens

    6.Star Wars: The Force Awakens

This was the first SW film I‘ve seen in theaters and that was such an unforgettable experience  to finally see a new story of this franchise - that I‘ve loved since I was a little kid - on the big screen. Obviously, some of Rey’s sudden abilities are sort of exaggerated and poorly written and it has kinda recreated “A new hope‘s“ story, but I didn‘t really care to be honest. All those theories everyone made up after watching the trailer and film and actually having high hopes for the further two films.... that was a good time.

  • Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

7.Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

Despite the many flaws this film obviously has, I still love it for introducing two of my favorite characters: Darth Maul and Qui Gon Jinn. Duel of the fates is also my favorite lightsaber fight in the entire saga!

  • Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

8.Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Yep, this film is very very flawed. There are lot of plot conveniences and dumb moments, but I still enjoyed it a lot!

  • Star Wars: The Last Jedi

    9.Star Wars: The Last Jedi

This might be a well made film, but most definitely not a good SW film. The casino storyline was just so useless and unnecessary. Instead of developing Fin and might even giving him a heroic death, Rian Johnson really chose to let him get saved by the most annoying character, just to turn this moment into a love confession scene that didn‘t even matter afterwards? And wtf was wrong with Holdo? But by far the worst thing was how they ruined Luke Skywalker’s character. Don‘t get my wrong, it‘s absolutely okay if characters & heroes change, but Luke‘s “development“ did not make any sense. The once most wholehearted man in the galaxy, that even saw the light in a mass murderer tries to kill his 14 (?) year old nephew, because he had a bad dream? Just no....

  • Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones

10.Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones

    Space Jesus carried this 🙏

  • Solo: A Star Wars Story

    11.Solo: A Star Wars Story

I do not think “Solo: A Star Wars story“ is a bad film by any means, it‘s okay and. But I didn‘t really care for its characters & story. When this film ended, it left me feel nothing, neither annoyance about how dumb it was nor happiness because of how good it was. It‘s just boring
