Escape from New York

Escape from New York

Total aesthetic overload. It makes perfect sense that this came out at the start of the 80's because everything that came after it completely stands on its shoulders. It's one of those movies like Akira or Blade Runner where as you watch it you start to realise how much of it you recognise just from being apart of pop culture.

I know Carpenter is beloved but can we take a moment to appreciate that he made The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China, They Live, and this in the same decade? The man was an 80's machine.

Also certainly a controversial take but I kept thinking throughout how interesting a remake would be and was pleased to find out they're making one. I'm very keen to see what Leigh Whannell does with it.
