Okay, I've come off the emotional high from last night and can think a bit more clearly about this now (I think).

There's so much to love. I will say, I was pretty apprehensive going into this. I thought it might end up being a cheap live-action rip-off of Into the Spider-Verse. Or else Sony pushing way too much into a single film again. Or the MCU doing too much in a supposedly standalone movie, like they did with Civil…

I've seen a lot of great performances, but I don't think I've ever seen anything like what Kristen Stewart does here.

She's absolutely magnetic. Somehow raw, yet refined. Unrestrained, yet subdued. Electric, yet subtle. Brilliant, yet humble.

Seriously, she's one of a kind.

The rest is really great too. Heartbreaking and tense at every turn, with an immersive score, phenomenal costume design, gorgeous cinematography, and some very cool horror undertones.

A really impressive rebound from the dumpster fire that is Cars 2.

Even though the story is a pretty standard underdog story and it feels almost too much like the same story as the first movie, it's nice to get back to the roots of what made the first one as enjoyable as it is: focus on characters, self-improvement, and selflessness.

Obviously great to have like zero Mater in this one. He's fine in small doses, and the…

I appreciate how gentle and methodical it is, and there were a few moments I really enjoyed. But I had the hardest time having any emotional connection to this, even at the end when they share what should be a powerful, moving moment. The plot meanders, most of the scenes feel hollow, and the characters are so inaccessible. Great performances, though.

The general premise is pretty solid and it touches on some important themes, but that's about it. Though I will say it kept me intrigued even if I couldn't take it seriously. And yeah, cool that we kind of experience the world as she does. I liked that idea a lot.

But man, the laughable, unrealistic dialogue and a lot of stiff acting and delivery just killed this for me. Not to mention the off-putting camera angles and film editing. Not a fan.

And Clayton's motive was suuuuuch a reach.

Basically a Jason Bourne movie if they cracked jokes every five minutes. I don't know, I don't mind some humor, but it started feeling forced and kind of distracting to me. Still, some cool action scenes, really vivid visuals, and great performances from Florence and Scarlett make it a fun watch. One that should have happened a long time ago.

I wanted a bit more Taskmaster, and the main villain, as has been pointed out, wasn't all that interesting. There…
