    The cynicism bleeds through every propaganda ad, every grotesque death, and every lighthearted joke. The critique of American reactionary politics is so in-your-face you pretty much get the gist by the very first scene: Democracy has failed, citizenship in this dystopia depends on service, and the only good bug is a dead bug; even so, the movie loves to treat you with violence on a cosmic scale so grandiose you can’t help but indulge in the atrocities and their intensity.…

    Watching all three movies in the trilogy in one sitting is the worst thing I could’ve done in my life, ever. This movie is wholesome and bittersweet at the beginning but by the end I felt visceral emotional pain for these characters falling in and out of love, and I just intensely wanted them to be happy. I’m 99% sure this movie opened wounds of my own experience with my parents’ tumultuous marriage and it made the ending that much more painful, but it’s such a beautiful and poignant ending to a masterpiece trilogy that I’m not even pressed fr πŸ›
