Possessor ★★★★½

I love movies where in the first couple frames you can tell the director is passionate about what’s on screen. Brandon Cronenberg definitely doesn’t hold your hand through the movie, allowing you to fully immerse yourself and put the pieces together. Andrea Riseborough and Christopher Abbott are really great here and kept me interested in what was going to happen with their characters. The production design is beautifully haunting, and the makeup/practical effects are top tier. I was expecting a body horror movie but got something very different and it makes Brandon stand apart from his dad while also paying respect to the practical effects with some of the more gruesome moments. My only flaw with the movie is that a couple scenes are a bit slow and drawn out, but overall it’s a great movie and I’m excited to see what Cronenberg Jr does next.
