it takes a true cinephile™️ to recognize the nuanced sociological, philosophical, political, transcending, visionary, aspect of this filmé! it simply redefines and shifts what it means to be overwhelmed with the intense feelings that are associated with finding your place in the world alongside the toxicities and complications transformed over the course of such a codependent experience in a period of isolation from rational thinking that plays into your subconscious and defines the theory of this phenomenon in a context that is so accessible to younger generations. anyway this is a camp masterpiece

the way this was an incredible pioneer for improvisational films, a brilliantly nuanced portrayal of the complexities in interracial relationships in the late 50s, and overall an outstanding directorial  debut..... however the lead actress not even being black just put me off. if there is an interview i can read or watch explaining the decision that would be great bc it really doesn’t make sense to me.
