David Starr’s review published on Letterboxd:
Whimsical fairytale horror that knows how to pull at your emotions. I loved the blend of escapist mythology against the unforgiving war. At first I wasn’t sure how this was developing but once everything started coming together or more accurately falling apart, I was completely invested.
I’ve been missing out on most of Guillermo del Toro’s movies and I should really start giving them all a watch since this a beautiful masterpiece. The episodic adventure among the drama and action is not only thrilling but a comforting relief.
