Black Christmas

Black Christmas ★★★★

A crisp, great new slasher that pays loving homage to the original. Similarly to Takal’s Always Shine and New Year, New You, it’s wonderfully atmospheric and the shots are simple but often beautifully and chilling.

The writing flows well and keeps its wit throughout.  Imogen Poots is fantastic as the lead and her and Cary Elwes does some of the best work I’ve seen from him in awhile, he fits the Ivy League college professor spot perfectly.

I know there’s been a lot of discussion about this movie and I disagree with the majority of it; I think the politics of it are well-delivered and in line with Bob Clark’s 1974 original. One slight criticism I do have to give that I haven’t seen though is that the trailer gives away way too many plot points, it really hurt the mystique in my opinion.
