    I Know Where I'm Going!

Powell and Pressburger were some of Englandโ€™s most imaginative filmmakers back in the day, creating several masterpieces during their partnership. Theyโ€™re most remembered for their technicolor features, these radiant, almost magical films where everything seems like a dream. In my opinion, what makes these films so great is the sense of atmosphere. In I know where Iโ€™m going, that dreamy atmosphere is still present, yet it presents itself quite differently compared to their prior work. While taking a more noir-inspiredโ€ฆ

โ€œSo, they were turning after all, those cameras. Life, which can be strangely merciful, had taken pity on Norma Desmond. The dream she had clung to so desperately, had enfolded her.โ€

    Only Angels Have Wings

Welcome to Barranca, Peru. Though high mountains and dangerous weather provide daily challenges for a crew of fearless American mail delivery pilots, itโ€™s the uncertainty of love and death that proves to be the true gauntlet, their ultimate as assured as the result of a coin flip. It is here that Bonnie Lee, a Brooklyn chorus girl, finds herself in a layover, setting the stage for Howard Hawksโ€™s Only Angels Have Wings. Even today, more than eighty years after itsโ€ฆ

This was a total blast, absolutely love Karin Mani. Sheโ€™s definitely the highlight of the film and Iโ€™m saddened to learn that she doesnโ€™t have many other films besides this one. Absolutely adore her gaudy fashions and amazing karate moves. The scene where sheโ€™s planning revenge at an Arbyโ€™s is incredible, as is the dojo scene. Oh and of course I canโ€™t forget the amazingness of her forcing the rapists to give her money for the pay phone. This was just a great time and I canโ€™t wait to see this again.

  • Parasite

Parasite has been on my radar since at least early July, Iโ€™ve heard nothing but good things so I was naturally looking forward to seeing it. Now Iโ€™ll be honest, this year hasnโ€™t been very good in terms of film quality, and I was hoping this would break that pattern. Boy was I wrong.

Iโ€™m not sure if hype culture played a role in my intense dislike of Parasite but I found it to be dreadful. My biggest issue wouldโ€ฆ

This movie genuinely gave me a headache.
