Fifty Favorite L.A. Movies

I remember when I called the New Beverly Cinema to get times for their double-bill of Chinatown and Blade Runner many years ago and the decidedly New Yorker-sounding voice on the recording proclaimed with the oily delivery of a used car salesman, "Los Angeles...past AND future!", I realized how the crazy and colorful spirit of L.A is truly eternal. It reminded me of how much I love L.A. in the movies and how it's not just a convenient filming location but also has a very unique and mercurial spirit of insanity, violence, perversion, greed, narcissism -- but also love, laughter and ultimately, hope.
