In Vivarium we see the downs of living a suburban life, but to the extreme, in a way. And from this it is also it's downfall. At almost every part of this movie the scenes are so benign and slow you loose interest just to get pulled in again for a very short time when something interesting finally does happen. Throughout you are subjected to the mundane realities of becoming a family and settling down, all the while with a feeling of being watched. They just don't convey the latter as clearly until the last ten or so minutes. It's a slow burn that doesn't have a satisfying end. The production design and core of the story are the highlights but again to little is done overall to keep you completely engaged.
