Rope ★★★★

The gimmicky logistics of Rope's production - HItchcock's first colour film - threaten to take precedence over the actual story but it remains such a compulsively gripping and brave little film that you can forgive its shortcomings. The acting may also be a little stilted but that is to be expected from a film that was mostly shot in full ten minute takes. Despite this, the technique pays off terrifically; the lack of editing allows the film to play out somewhat theatrically before your eyes as if it is all unfolding as you watch.
