Cruella

Cruella ★★★½

B

The movie was too long, it felt like I was watching a miniseries. Hmm... now that I think about it, this would actually be better off as a Disney+ miniseries but oh well.

Anyway, this was a fun and dark ride! It's not bad and it's certainly one of the better live-action retellings that Disney ever produced! It's like a Disneyfied I, Tonya and of course, Craig Gillespie did one heck of a job in directing it. Also, Emma Stone as Cruella de Vil? Perfection. The production and costume design? Also perfection. The CGI? That's another story.

Some problems I found in the script that I am willing to blindly ignore because I was having so much fun with the movie:
• it's too on-the-nose, especially with the monologue/dialogue + needle drops
• the cliché big reveal. what is this, a telenovela soap opera?
• the mid-credits scene that felt kinda forced
• seriously, do they have to connect all the characters?
• I wish they could've written cruella's moral objections better

PS. I seriously can't wait for part 2 and here's hoping that they will tap Cruella's moral code and the psychological implications next time.
PPS. I can't help but to feel sad that those 3 dalmatians at the end are now closer to their deaths
