Let’s see if I can do this without spoiling anything. In the age of requels and legacy sequels, you have to tread a fine line between honoring the past and still telling a story worth telling.

Scream (why not call it Ghostface or Screams) does a good job of paying careful attention to all the films in the series (even part 3) with too many Easter eggs to count. You can tell this was a movie mad for fans by…

  • Dune

I will start by saying, if you have the ability to see this in IMAX, do it. Absolutely immersive from the soundtrack to the visuals.

Denis Villeneuve continues to prove why he is one of the best working directors. His ability to handle the scope and magnitude of such a project like Dune is intimidating and he doesn’t even break a sweat. He is able to make us believe in this fictitious world and get engrossed in the world of…

I think it’s time to official create a new horror sub genre: RETRO HORROR

-imitating horror genres of the past (slasher, giallo, etc) and using their era setting
    -Synth and String heavy score
-garish color use (red, green, purple, orange)
    -Modern take on classic gore
    -Vintage title design

Films that qualify: Summer of 84’, Mandy, House of the Devil, the upcoming X, etc.

The Last Matinee is part of this collective. A Spanish made homage to the classic Giallo films…

Ingrid Bergman Month - Film #11

People may think films are woke now but I introduce you to a film that addresses the evil of WW2 right smack dab in the middle of the conflict. Made with the confidence of knowing we’d win the war, starring two of the biggest stars of the time.

This is truly one of the best Hollywood films of all time. The combo of Bogart and Bergman is lights out and Curtiz’s direction is ahead…

    The Last Duel

-Ben Affleck looking like Nick Carter
-Matt Damon looking like he should be at the Daytona 500
-Adam Driver looking like Adam Driver

Jodie Comer absolutely steals this film from her fellow actors and draws you into the fight her character must make for the truth.

Ridley Scott is 84 years old and I plan to be way retired by the time I reach that age. To his credit, he still wants to make films and made the best one he’s made in years.

WatchMojo recently included this film on their “20 Greatest Action Movies of the 21st Century.” Omitting films like Atomic BlondeDredd, and The Raid 2. What a joke.
