Luke Poff’s review published on Letterboxd:
I’m sorry, Dave. I’m afraid I can’t do that.
Going to give this a rewatch before solidifying my thoughts on it, both because it unexpectedly turned into a cinematic acid trip and because I was tired. The craft is truly impeccable, but Kubrick’s vision of the future doesn’t really do anything for me beyond that. Might have to request an essay from you, Travis, because I’m not getting “God-haunted” from a movie about mankind’s (very loose use of the term since in Kubrick’s eyes we’re just animals) alien-stimulated evolution and apotheosis(?). Maybe I’m dumb, though. That’s always a possibility. Keep an eye out for an impending rewatch and review.
