    Watchmen

    ★★★½

Just yesterday I finished reading the Watchmen graphic novel created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. It was unlike any other comic series I have read. I wouldn’t necessarily say it is my favorite series ever, but definitely one of the more engaging and distinctive series. It deals with so many different topics including time, deceit, order, ethics and corruption. Obviously there are many more, but those themes are at the forefront of my mind. So, naturally just finishing the book…

The Shining is by far my favorite film of all-time. Seeing this in an IMAX theater on it's 40th Anniversary, was possibly the best theatre experience of my life. The visuals, the sounds and the music were all elevated on the big screen. Even though this was probably my 10th time seeing the film, I have never liked it better and this viewing further solidified it as my favorite.

Dudley Murphy’s The Emperor Jones (1933) is without a doubt nothing along the lines of what I was expecting. I expected a film that was going to be some sort of social commentary regarding the racist ways of America. However, I was treated to a movie that showed what the lust for power and greed can do to a man. Even though this is shown through Brutus, I think Brutus’s ways could be representative of the ways of colonization and…

Really enjoy the time this takes to do its world building. The bulk of the action doesn't start until quite a way through the runtime and it really allowed for the exploration of Mega City One. Performances are suitable for the characters but nothing to rave about. I just commend the level of gore and absurdity the action achieved given a relatively low budget.

To say that this was anything but what I thought it would be would be an understatement. From the trailers I was mildly intrigued and with James Wan attached, it was enough to make me want to see it. But oh my goodness was this a surprise. Malignant is deranged, brutal, twisted and most of all a great time. The film takes a while to get running, but with how the last act plays out, it is certainly for the…

There is still like 45 min left, but I am sure this is one of the worst things I have seen in my life.
