The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf

The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf ★★★

For a non-Witcher fan, and someone who knows only tidbits of information about the world and its characters, courtesy of my brother, I was pleasantly surprised I enjoyed this as much as I did. This is by no means excellent, but it is frequently wild, with pulpy violence and some well-crafted dream sequences.

It’s just not got much nuance in any respect, most evidently in the character development, and the pacing is way off. It’s too quick, and doesn’t flow like a film should, which makes me think it would maybe have worked better as a miniseries. Nonetheless there is some merit to be found here, namely the focus on becoming a Witcher and the conflicts that arise in that process which, if it worked for me, I’m sure it will for bigger fans of the franchise.
