Katharsi is a solid Greek vigilante flick that remains tense and tight throughout its runtime. If you have never heard of it, think of it as an (unintentional) Greek tribute to Charles Bronson films.

Esteban is forced to quit the police after killing a drug lord, avenging the murder of his wife. He arrives in Athens and stays with his crippled uncle, but has a hard time finding a job. With no options left, he is hired by the chief…

    Rome, Armed to the Teeth

In the mid-70s Rome, you just don't mess with Commissionario Tanzi, his moustache, and his Alfetta. Tanzi is after the violent Ferrender gang, but he will kick the ass of any lowlife that will cross his path. It's the mid-70s, so you can expect complete absence of political correctness by today's standards. Which is actually a good reason to watch the film. Much of the film is spent in car chases in packed streets, with what appears to be live…

    The Boom

Subtle satire on the social pressure for material wealth. Although Giovanni Alberti is fairly successful at his job, he is also trapped in the sky-high expectations of society from him. He tries to match these expectations by drafting a smart entrepreneurial plan, but his richer friends turn their backs to him. He makes an attempt to start living more modestly, but that's also seen as an admission of failure: Being seen riding a taxi? What would people say? Moving from…

Dafuq did I just watch? Non-stop action overimposed on an absurd scenario. It took me around 15' to finally realize that the story is bollocks. Atlanteans could have been anything from Martians, to vampires, to Donald J. Trump supporters, and it would have negligible effect on the movie.
But once you get to that point, it's a pretty enjoyable watch. There's a lot of action, helicopter stunts, plus some nifty old-school special effects. Nice to have this on Netflix.

    Synecdoche, New York

A pretentious steaming pile of crap. TBH, I should have seen this coming from the title: A fancy-ass greek word, so you can sound smart talking to your friends about the movie. Plus New York, because everybody knows that it's a magical city inhabited by wonderful human beings. I mean, who would give a damn about this movie, were it titled "Figure of speech, Detroit"?

Anyone who has rated this over two stars, should go take a look in the…

    The Bride of Frankenstein

The film that the original Frankenstein should have been: More about the monster, and less about its creator. More about social prejudice, and less about personal obsession. And with a much smaller dose of faux-folkore.

The visuals are on the same level as the original. The score is perhaps a bit better. And performances pretty solid. Compared to the original, Karloff is given much more room to perform, and he delivers. So does Lanchester who has than 4' of screentime,…
