“what’s the first thing you’ll do when you’re free?”
such a nice surprise! i agree with reviews saying that the tonal shifts were a little wonky, and some jokes definitely landed better than others, but the third act completely blew me away. i imagine it’s not easy to make a film sad but also funny and heartwarming at the same time, and taika waititi manages to pull it off. standout performances for me were roman griffin davis, thomasin mckenzie & sam rockwell (the latter’s final scene?? incredible). i also loved the cinematography, especially the close-ups on character’s faces and the war scene.
i do wish the magic i felt during the third act was also present in the first two, so a rewatch will have to tell if the film holds up for me as a whole. for now though, i have a feeling its movie magic will stay with me for a while ♡
